This project included the remodel of 11,000 SF of operating rooms on the second floor of the east wing of the main hospital. The goal was to convert the space into a pulmonary and GI suite. The project was completed in two phases, demolition and a remodel. During the demolition phase, all hazardous materials were removed, creating a shell space. The remodel phase built back the space into a brand-new suite. The suite consists of specialized areas, including four GI procedure rooms, two advanced GI procedure rooms with Artis Zee imaging equipment, two bronchoscopy procedure rooms, scope processing rooms for decontamination, sterilization, and storage, charge nurse work area, IDF room, mechanical room, and equipment and supply storage.
To overcome the fire-rated ceiling challenges in the east wing, HY Architects analyzed the building and justified the existing deck as two-hour fire-rated. This classification allowed the project to be classified as a care suite. The analysis has proven successful and is now being used on other projects in the east wing.
