HY Architects was selected by the Hayward Unified School District to design a new Performing Arts Center on the Mt. Eden High School campus. The facility serves as a district-wide venue for educational programs and community events, including drama, music, dance, musical theater, and lectures.
To inform the design, HY Architects and the theater consultant conducted a series of stakeholder meetings and distributed surveys to gather input from user groups and high school principals. This collaborative process helped shape the size, layout, and programmatic elements of the facility.
The 30,120 SF Performing Arts Center includes a 400-seat theater with orchestra pit and stage, a black box theater for flexible performances and meetings, and a visual arts gallery. Additional features include a lobby with box office and restrooms, green room, backstage support spaces, scenery storage, and a loading dock for efficient access and operations.
